Delivering the Scottish Green Energy Opportunity: The 2011 Scottish European Green Energy Centre Conference

What are the real opportunities ahead and which are the core hurdles to be cleared? This conference will examine the strategic choices and challenges which government and the energy sector need to resolve. Hearing from leading experts and practitioners the conference will provide an opportunity for open dialogue between all green energy stakeholders and will feature master classes on themes including carbon capture and storage, generation and transmission, grid development and smart grids, funding and project planning and development.

A politicians' panel of energy spokespersons will discuss future energy policy and whether a consensus approach could provide a stable basis for economic development in this area.

The Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) was created in 2009 and is supported by Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Energy and the European Regional Development Fund. SEGEC facilitates collaborative projects and funding packages designed to accelerate the deployment of low carbon energy technologies, particularly focusing on EU policy and funding. This conference will give an opportunity to both examine and understand the EU's renewable energy policy and to prepare for the EU green energy funding opportunities which lie ahead.

SEGEC works to accelerate the development, demonstration and deployment of green energy technologies, through its work in Scotland and with partners across Europe. It provides a focal point for organisations engaging in low carbon energy projects with a European context. SEGEC has already secured €40 million for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre which will be located off Aberdeen and will have a project total of around €200 million and €75 million for an offshore grid node, to link Shetland to the mainland and to link offshore renewables into the national grid.
