Chief Exec appointed for Green Energy Hub
The Board of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) is pleased to announce that Chris Bronsdon has been appointed as Chief Executive of SEGEC from 1 October 2010. Chris brings broad experience of the energy scene from his work with British Energy, the Scottish Energy and Environment Foundation and SQW Energy.
In his new role Chris will provide day to day leadership to the SEGEC team, building on existing successes of the organisation in its first year and delivering more successful projects for EU funding, including under the New Entrants Reserve. A key early priority will be to take forward a review of the SEGEC business plan to build a sustainable funding model for the future.
The Board also wishes to thank Duncan Botting for his leadership and success as Interim CEO while also carrying out his continuing role as Executive Chair.
Executive Chair Duncan Botting said "SEGEC has achieved much success in its first year of operation. I look forward to working closely with Chris and the Board to exceed the already impressive achievements accomplished by the SEGEC team."
Chris Bronsdon added "SEGEC has a pivotal role to play in delivering energy infrastructure in Scotland and I'm delighted to be joining to work with Duncan, the board and an established team to build on the success of SEGEC and that of Team Scotland."
Jim Mather MSP, Minister for Enterprise, Energy, and Tourism said "I am pleased to see the Scottish European Green Energy Centre going from strength to strength with this new appointment. I am most grateful to Duncan Botting for all the work he has done over the past year to establish the organisation as a serious player at European level and for bringing some £100 million of European funding to Scotland. The work the Centre is doing at present in relation to new European funding programmes is very important indeed and I send my best wishes to Duncan, Chris and the team for future successes."

About SEGEC
The Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) provides a focal
point for European organisations engaging in low carbon energy
projects and activities. SEGEC supports engagement with
institutions, networks and technology platforms, influencing the
future policy agenda and identifying opportunities for
collaboration across different industry sectors.
SEGEC facilitates partnerships, collaborative projects and funding packages designed to accelerate the development and deployment of low carbon energy technologies, and disseminates the results.
An independent, not-for-profit organisation, SEGEC is sponsored by the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, ScottishPower and Scottish and Southern Energy, and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
SEGEC's energy priorities include, but are not limited to: Marine Energy, Carbon Capture & Storage, Renewable Heat, SuperGrids and SmartGrids and Offshore Wind, and aims to facilitate high impact projects, which can make a real difference.
SEGEC Projects to date
In the short time that SEGEC has been operational, SEGEC has
securing funding for two significant projects through the European
Economic Recovery Package funding stream:
• €40 million was secured for the European Offshore Wind
Deployment Centre, which will be located off Aberdeen and will have
a project total of around €200 million.
• €75 million was secured for an offshore grid node, which
will link Shetland to the mainland and allow offshore renewables to
link into the national grid more easily. This leveraged another €75
million of private investment.
Both of these projects will create many local jobs, require the establishment of local supply chains, provide opportunities for dissemination of valuable knowledge gained through experience and contribute significantly towards Europe's green energy ambitions.
