Renewable Chair hopes to add Value to Board
First Minister, Alex Salmond, announced today at the Inaugural All Energy Summit of the Scottish Energy Advisory Board, ahead of the 10th Annual All-Energy Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, that Duncan Botting, Executive Chairman and Interim CEO of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) will join the Scottish Energy Advisory Board.
The Scottish Energy Advisory Board is the key forum for engagement between ministers, industry and academia in Scotland, working to develop Scotland's energy strategies. The Board has three Advisory Theme Groups - Oil & Gas, Thermal Generation & CCS and Forum for Renewable Energy Development in Scotland (FREDS), and this is the first time that the three of these groups have come together collectively.
Mr. Botting's appointment will bring his unparalleled experience of the global energy industry and his extensive knowledge of European energy policy and projects, which will greatly enhance the already strong capability of the Board.
Commenting on his appointment, Duncan Botting said "I am delighted to be invited to join the Energy Advisory Board where I hope to be able to add value to the already good work of the Board. I must also congratulate the team at SEGEC that has been built and is driving the next steps towards Scotland's ambitions to secure a low-carbon energy future for Europe."
Sponsored by the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, ScottishPower and Scottish & Southern Energy, SEGEC was officially opened by the First Minister in August 2009. SEGEC is designed to support Scottish engagement in European activity and the development of collaborative projects to accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy technologies.
"One of the major issues facing our nation in achieving the 2020 carbon reduction targets is the deployment of sustainable energy technologies developed by the wealth of research and technology developers that Scotland has to offer. SEGEC will work to facilitate the deployment of such technologies through collaborative projects with partners across Europe." added Mr. Botting.
First Minister Alex Salmond said "Scotland is well placed to be the green energy powerhouse of Europe, with enviable natural resources and expertise driving forward our ambitious expansion of wind and marine energy.
"I am delighted with the work of Scotland's European Green Energy Centre in Aberdeen. Building on its early success in helping secure over 100 million Euros of European funding for two excellent and innovative renewable energy projects in Aberdeen and Shetland, I look forward to SEGEC playing an increasingly important role in putting Scotland at the forefront of renewable energy research and development and innovation.
"Duncan is doing a great job at SEGEC and he will be a great asset at the Scottish Energy Advisory Board. The board has been an excellent vehicle for driving forward Scotland's green energy agenda.
"Scotland's leading role in the green energy future and Aberdeen's reputation as a centre of excellence for energy is underlined by the decision to continue to host the All-Energy conference in Aberdeen over the next two days, and is the ideal location for SEGEC to be situated."
