Competitiveness and Innovation Programme

With small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as its main target, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) supports innovation activities (including eco-innovation), provides better access to finance and delivers business support services in the regions.

CIP encourages a better take-up and use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and helps to develop the information society. It also promotes the increased use of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

The CIP runs from 2007 to 2013 with an overall budget of € 3.6 billion.

One of the three programmes under CIP is the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme (IEE), which has around €730 million allocated between 2007-2013 to support European projects under annual calls for project proposals. Funding covers up to 75% of the eligible project costs. IEE aims to deliver on the ambitious climate change and energy targets set by the EU.

The programme aims to tackle non-technological barriers to the update of energy efficiency measures and renewables and cannot fund technological research and demonstration activity.

The 2011 IEE Call for Proposals was announced on 18th January 2011, and the deadline for applications was 12th May 2011. Further information can be found here.

Activities should consist of at least 3 partner organisations from 3 different eligible countries, will be funded for a maximum of 3 years and with a budget of usually c€0.5 - 2.5m.

The European Information Day on the IEE Programme 2011 Call for Proposals took place in Brussels on Tuesday 18th January 2011. Event information can be found here.
